Cars and motorbikes These are the best means of transport to get around independently in Sardinia. It is possible to hire vehicles from principle urban centres and from the airports. Some examples of travelling distance;
Olbia to Cagliari 265 kms, about 4 hours passing Ozieri and Macomer
Porto Torres to Cagliari, 250 kms, about 3 hours.
Campers and caravans Some navigation companies propose combinations ad hoc to those who want to travel in this way. For example, Moby offers the possibility to book such a vehicle on the ferry route Livorno – Olbia and Piombino – Olbia. It is also possible to hire such vehicles on the island.
Train The railway system of Sardinia is a principle line and in others reduced.
Buses Connections are secured by various companies, the most important being Azienda, the Sardinian regional transport. Travel times are some what long, for example Cagliari – Oristano, 2 hours for 100 kilometres.
Trekking and Bicycles There are numerous associations and societies which organise walking and mountain bike tours.
